About:

Ishiguro’s Novel ‘never Let Me Go.’ Was the foundation for this project, Kathy has a childhood collection of old-discarded objects that she treasures and can’t part with. During her time spent at the run-down, depressing cottages, she looks to these old-items for comfort. I explored further to translate this into my collection, visually, through the use of textiles. I was inspired by the rural and mundane life of old labour workers, how they had very little and lived by the motto of “to-good-to-waste” Heirloom quilts, Japanese Boro and Kantha quilts contextualises this philosophy, this inventively pieced and patched design is made up of scraps of old clothes and treasured-textile fragments which are layered and combined into dense quilts. I applied this design aesthetic onto contemporary silhouettes for my collection.
